Birdman is the Academy Award winning film by visionary Mexican filmmaker Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (Amores Perros, Babel, Biutiful). Part comedy, part tragedy, part fantasy, Birdman tells the story of a washed-up actor (Michael Keaton) who once played an iconic superhero. He must now overcome his ego and family troubles as he mounts a Broadway play in a bid to reclaim his past glory.
The non conventional, drum-only score was composed by acclaimed drummer Antonio Sanchez - one of the players behind Pat Metheny. It is the first time the score to a major motion picture features drums as the sole instrument. Sanchez’s music brings rhythm and movement to this unique visual experience. Alongside Sanchez’s evocative score is a selection of classical music pieces by composers such as Ravel, Rachmaninoff, Mahler and Tchaikovsky.
