Highly recommended album from Stellar Om Source aka Christelle Gualdi, peddling an intricate & tough dancefloor sound borrowing from Early Warp / Rephlex records or 90s Detroit electro in an Urban Tribe vein.   With a classical training and a background in more abstact electronics, this LP for RVNG showcases a lean club aesthetic, performed with an expert's eye for detail.   As if that wasn't enough, the album was arranged and mixed by Kassem Mosse, with a KM remix as a CD bonus track.

Two heavyweights go head to head. Terror Danjah helped to pioneer a dread, instrumental Grime sound which Champion has developed into a distinctive UKF variant. *CD shipping 1st June*   Re-issue of African Songbird, the masterpiece from South Africa’s greatest jazz singer, Sathima Bea Benjamin. Originally released in 1976, African Songbird was a debut long overdue.   A 1959 recording debut, which would have been South Africa’s first ever LP, was shelved. Her 1963 recording with Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn was put aside by Reprise’s then head of A&R, Frank Sinatra, for not being commercial enough. African Songbird is a tour-de-force, and arguably the most dramatic and powerful release on Rashid Vally’s As-shams label.

'Man Or Mistress' - built around a dubby bassline and swirling epic synths grows into an all-out dancefloor throwdown with white-noise percussion and epic strings. Eyes down business on 'Making Headway', an dark industrial number built around clanging metallic percussion, sexual growls, bass and glassy synths. 'No Regrets' employs a soulful male vocal over a warped simple beat and sci-fi synthwork. KILLER!!!!!!!!!!

'Sun Storm' - tumbling Chicago drums, chattering claps and sci-fi swirls all add up to something that’s as heady as it is futuristic. 'Challenger' on the other hand sounds like a much more calm and serene trip through the cosmos, with slowed electro stylings and plenty of occult details coming over like the soundtrack to a film as much as a darkened dancefloor.Uncompromising techno pair Blawan and Pariah a.k.a. Karenn turns in an unsurprisingly brutish version of ‘Onkalo’ that spits and skips through industrial drums, fizzing machine noises and sombre horn sounds. Evil!
