Raised on a healthy diet of Jamaican dub, rotted reels and dusty electronics, Tapes delivers one of his most experimental, f'ed up productions to date. The jerky 8-bit collisons on "Oberheimer" recall Dabrye's classic crushed, industrial sonics, whilst "Dungeness" on the flip is a druggy, digi-riddim with sinister soundtrack undertones. Recorded using his own arsenal of analogue synths and sequencers, Aaron has exploited the wandering timing and pitch of these old beasts to produce uncanny and evocative detuning effects which add to the induced torpor. While the atmosphere may be unsettling in places, the tempos and structures are those of an experimental house music album, with abstracted 303 acid lines and classic drum machines acting as a welcome familiarity as you navigate the odd time-signatures and plastic aural sensations of Last Step's hypnagogic world.

Although American black artists such as Sly Stone, Timmy Thomas, and Shuggie Otis had experimented with electronic soul to mediocum success, these were scant on record. Collected here are sixteen artists dedicated to an incandescent electronic soul - sometimes bizaare, funky or trippy new wave experiments that let your mind wander.

Inspired by the new technology of the time, using early synthesizers and drum machines giving the tracks a cosmic, intergalatic sound. Incredibly creative stuff!

Often released on private, small pressings this is a wonderful chance to discover this brilliant music!

Indian film music invariably manages to take you by surprise, time and time again. Hard electro-funk and sweet synth-pop are not genres you would expect from India. Yet, in the late 80s electronic beats and synths were eagerly embraced by the film industry of South India along with kung fu fights, aerobics, sunglasses and track-suits. The rich and funky Tamil grooves of the early 80s transformed into stripped electronic synthesizer music. Composer Ilaiyaraaja, AKA The Maestro, used minimal beats and synthetic arrangements to create an addictive and captivating electro synth pop sound. His experimental mind, unfailing pop instinct and advanced harmonics make the songs a feast for the ears that will grow with every listening. With copious sleeve notes on the featured films, the double LP is housed in a heavy card sleeve.

Compiled by Edo Bouman. The brains behind the Bombay Connection label, whose previous releases, Bombay Connection, Bombshell Baby of Bombay and Charanjit Singh's Ten Ragas To A Disco Beat raised the bar for Bollywood and Indian electronic music compilations and reissues. He also compiled the lavish, now out of print, TASCHEN book, Art Of Bollywood.
